Waikato River Highlights

Friday 5 December, departs 8.30am
$95+GST

This trip will depart from Claudelands by bus - meet in the Gate 4 car park (outside Entry 11) -  and take you on a journey exploring several highlights along the Waikato River.  Meet at 8.15am for an 8.30am departure.

 

We will begin overlooking the Arapuni Dam where we will hear about the jet grouting remediation work, then head to the Arapuni suspension bridge to view the powerstation.

​

We will have lunch at Keeley’s Reserve on the banks of the Waikato River where we will hear about the monitoring infrastructure on the Waikato River associated with the Emerging Climatic Pressures (ECP) programme led by Lincoln Agritech.  The ECP focuses on understanding how climate change—particularly rising atmospheric COâ‚‚—affects freshwater ecosystems.

After lunch we will visit and tour the Karapiro hydroelectrical facility and dam operated by Mercury Energy.

You will travel back to Hamilton via the airport.

​Estimated arrival time at the airport is: 4pm

Middle Earth

Friday 5 December, departs 8.30am

Meet at Claudelands Gate 4 Car Park (Near Entry 11)  at 8.15am for an 8.30am departure.

 

Morning

We'll explore the ancestral path of the Waikato River, visiting the Hinuera Stone Quarry and the Blue Spring—famous for its crystal-clear, turquoise waters and the source of approximately 70% of New Zealand’s bottled water.

​

Afternoon
Enjoy a guided tour of the Hobbiton Movie Set, lasting 2.5 hours. You'll stroll through the 12-acre set, step inside a Hobbit house on Bagshot Row, and conclude with a visit to the iconic Green Dragon Inn.

​

​Estimated time of arrival the airport is:  4:00pm

​​

Includes: Entry to Hobbiton - including a full guided tour.

Return bus transport – with airport transfer and lunch
