GMDSI Special Session

Thursday 4th December 11.20am - 3.00pm
Location:
Price: included in full registration
The Groundwater Modelling Decision Support Initiative will hold a special session at the NZHS | MSNZ Conference on Thursday 4 December. The session will cover two presentation blocks, before and after lunch. The first session will provide an introduction to decision support modelling and is designed for model users and decision makers, as well as groundwater modellers.
We will consider key questions such as:
-
When can we use groundwater models and for what questions?
-
How do we make models relevant for people making decisions?
These questions will be supported with real-world case studies from New Zealand and Australia.
The second session will focus on tools and resources that are available to facilitate decision support modelling. This will include the latest updates on PEST++ and PyEMU tools, incorporating demonstrations and where to find further openly available resources. There will then be a rapid roundup of model builds, workflows and visualisations showcasing groundwater modelling innovation in NZ and then finish with an open discussion on what next for groundwater modelling in Aotearoa New Zealand.
We would like the GMDSI special session to encourage open dialogue and connection among groundwater modellers, practitioners, and decision-makers in New Zealand. The special session will be led by GMDSI steering group members Cath Moore (Earth Sciences NZ) and Jeremy White (INTERA) and include perspectives from regional councils and researchers. The GMDSI Special Session is included in the conference fee and day registrations are available on the conference website. Specific registration for the session is therefore not necessary, but you can contact the session organisers using this form.
