Science-Policy Workshop
Monday 5 December, 10am
Price: FREE
Registration: Email Paul White (p.white@gns.cri.nz)
Background

You are invited to a science-policy workshop on the topics of: climate-change adaptation; water accounting; and records of engagement.

The climate-change adaptation session aims to introduce attendees to the generation of climate-change adaptation policies of Dunedin City Council’s South Dunedin project and to discuss Marlborough District Council’s beginnings in their policy development.

‘Water Accounting’, is being used in Australia for environmental monitoring and is proposed for the US and NZ. The workshop will address current relevant work in NZ (e.g., Statistics NZ’s Water Physical Stock Account), the scope of ‘Water Accounting’, data requirements and use of this data. Tools for the future of water accounting are under development - participants will interrogate interactive tools (Google Earth Engine App) to create budgets of a range of water cycle variables. (e.g., rainfall, evapotranspiration and recharge).

Records of Engagement and Decision-making (RoED) are critical to efforts that aim to improve understanding of the complexity, and tradeoffs, involved in improving groundwater management and policy. The workshop will update progress on RoEDs in NZ, a seek feedback from workshop attendees.
